Camilla "Camie" Green accused her husband, Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), of "engaging in an extramarital relationship with a 32 year old woman" in a group text dispatched Wednesday to other legislators that was examined by The Post.

Green's spouse asserted that the other woman, whom she did not identify, was employed by political news outlet Axios, but according to a cease-and-desist communication obtained by The Post, Axios' in-house legal counsel labeled the claim "false and per se defamatory."

"Your message has not only caused this reporter considerable emotional distress, it has damaged her professional reputation," Axios content counsel Brian Westley wrote to Camie Green.

"We therefore insist that you promptly rectify the record by sending a brief follow-up text to the group that states: 'I made an error when I wrote that Mark had engaged in an extramarital relationship with a woman working at Axios. That is not accurate, and I apologize for the distress and harm I have caused to anyone my message might have affected.'"

Camilla Green told Politico subsequently in a statement: "I wish to correct the record, because I misidentified someone in that message. My husband has never had a relationship with a reporter from Axios, and I regret having stated that."
