Wheelchair Tennis Paralympics 2024 Google Doodle: As the Paris Paralympics 2024 continues to enthrall sports fans around the globe, Google marked the wheelchair tennis event on Tuesday with a lively doodle featuring animated birds.
The doodle showcases two birds playing the sport from wheelchairs in the picturesque Parisian garden of Jardin du Palais Royal, or Jardin des Tuileries. “Ace attitudes and stellar serves. Wheelchair Tennis begins today at Stade Roland-Garros!” the search engine posted on its official Google Doodles page.
The 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris initiated wheelchair tennis events on August 30, with the competitions running until September 7 at the Roland Garros Stadium, renowned for its clay courts. The tournament includes singles and doubles matches in the men’s, women’s, and quads categories.
On Sunday, Alfie Hewett (Great Britain), Martin De La Puente (Spain), Todiko Oda (Japan), and Gustavo Fernandez (Argentina) advanced to the last 16 in various matches.

First introduced at the Barcelona Paralympic Games in 1992, wheelchair tennis is now played at all four Grand Slam tournaments. According to the official website, the International Tennis Federation Wheelchair Tennis Tour now encompasses over 150 events.
The sport classifies athletes into two categories:
The open class, for athletes with permanent impairment in one or both legs but with normal arm function.
The quad class, for athletes with additional limitations in the playing arm, affecting their ability to handle the racquet and maneuver the wheelchair.
